20 Different Types of Photography Genres

A camera used to be something that you had to buy as a distinct item and was intended to be used by a photographer. Now you get a camera when you buy a smart phone. Since cameras are so affordable these days, almost everyone have one. Almost every single person calls their photo-shots as Photography. Here's an 20 Different Types of Photography Genres.



Portraits Photography
Portrait photography or portraiture in photography is a photograph of a person or group of people that captures the personality of the subject by using effective lighting, backdrops, composition and poses.

Newborn Photography
It is the only area of photography that involves the photographer being completely responsible for the safety and welfare of the subject – the baby. As a newborn photographer, it's a responsibility to hold, comfort, soothe, pose, wrap, and often even feed and clean up after your subject, which is the baby.


Fashion Photography
Fashion photography is a genre of photography which is devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items. Fashion photography is most often conducted for advertisements or fashion magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, or Elle.



Beauty Photography
Beauty photography is a more modern version of glamour-style portraiture. The objective of a beauty session is to reveal your inner and outer beauty, presence, femininity and personality.

Nature Photography
Nature photography is a wide range of photography taken outdoors and devoted to displaying natural elements. It may also capture close-ups of natural scenes and textures.

Wild Life Photography
Wildlife photography is a genre of photography concerned with documenting various forms of wildlife in their natural habitat. It is one of the more challenging forms of photography ever.


Landscape Photography
Landscape photography shows spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic. Landscape photographs typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features such as cityscape or disturbances of landscapes.

Macro (Insect) Photography
Macro photography (or photomacrography or macrography, and sometimes macrophotography), is extreme close-up photography, usually of very small subjects and living organisms like insects, in which the size of the subject in the photograph is greater than life size. Art of Macro.

Bird Photography
Bird Photography is easily relate to Nature / Wild Life Photography for some reasons. It's main focus is ofcourse, shooting birds. 

Event Photography
Event photography is the practice of photographing things, people and every aspect of a function or occurrence at a particular moment. Event Photography are usually needed in Concerts, Parties, D&D as well as Wedding is considered as an event as well. 

Wedding Photography
Wedding photography is the photography of activities relating to weddings. It encompasses photographs of the couple proceeding with marriage culture as well as coverage of the wedding and reception. 

Photojournalism Photography
Photojournalism is a particular form of journalism that employs images in order to tell a story in candid documentary. 

Travel Photography
Travel photography is a genre of photography that may involve the documentation of an area's landscape, people, cultures, customs and history.

Candid Photography
A candid photograph is a photograph captured without creating a posed appearance. This is achieved in many ways, for example: when the subject is in motion.


Food Photography
Food photography is a still life photography genre used to create attractive still life photographs of food. Potrays the character of the food and it's presentation of it.

Macro (Food) Photography
Similar to Photomacrography or macrography, this is an extreme close-up food photography, usually of very small texture and subjects.

Underwater Photography
Underwater photography is the process of taking photographs while under water. It is usually done while scuba diving, but can be done while diving on surface supply, snorkeling, swimming, and other method which Photographer may be surrounds with water pool or the sea.


Still Life Photography
Still life photography is a genre of photography used for the depiction of inanimate subject matter, typically a small group of objects. It is the application of photography to the still life artistic style. An example is food photography.

Abstract Photography
Abstract photography, sometimes called non-objective, experimental, conceptual or concrete photography, is a means of depicting a visual image that does not have an immediate association with the object world and that has been created through the use of photographic equipment, processes or materials. Many Artistic Abstract photos are created by shapes, light painting, reflections, patterns, shadows and many more elements.

Aerial Photography
Aerial photography used to be photography taken from an aircraft. In recent years, it had became more popular using a flying drone. 

Lightning Photography
Lightning is a very elusive beast that many seem to struggle with. Being one of the most unpredictable forces of nature, lightning storms present a unique challenge for most photographers. We've all seen powerful photos of lightning in action.
